Core Abilities
Core abilities represent college-wide outcomes and are often transferable skills, attitudes, and abilities to be mastered by learners completing a degree or certificate. Core abilities are entered and approved in the Organization module in WIDS. They are often assigned by the parent program. If the parent program has assigned core abilities to this course, they will appear here. You will not be able to remove or edit them. You will need to go to the program to do so.
Select Related Outcomes from the left navigation column of Designer to view or add core abilities.
- To add a core ability not assigned by the parent program, click the + sign above the core abilities grid.
- WIDS opens a panel with the core abilities available to link. Select the core abilities you want to associate by clicking in the box.
- Remove core abilities you do not want linked by clicking the trash can icon at the end of the grid row.
- To reorder core abilities, click on the grab dots on the far left of the row. Drag the row up or down.

Tip: You cannot remove core abilities assigned by the parent program. You will need to go to the program to do so. You cannot edit the core ability statements at the course level. You must go to the Organization module to do so.
