External Standards
External standards represent credentialing requirements established by an external organization. State standards, national skills standards, and professional standards are all examples. External standards are associated with a course to validate the course for accreditation and to link standards to course competencies. External standards are often assigned by the parent program. If the parent program has assigned standards to this course, they will appear here. You will not be able to remove or edit them. You will need to go to the program to do so.
Select Related Outcomes from the left navigation column of Designer to view or add external standards.
Add a New Standard Set
- To add a standard set not assigned by the parent program, click the + sign above the external standards grid.
- WIDS opens a panel with the external standard sets available to link. Use the search box to find a standard set or click the > symbol before the title to open the folder and see the sets available for linking.
- Check the box to open the standard set. All of the standards in the set populate below.
- Check the standards you want to link. If you want to link all of them, check the box in the header row of the standard list.
- Click Add.
Tip: WIDS provides common sets of external standards for your use. Don’t see what you need? You can request the addition of an external standard set by contacting your Site Administrator.
View Standards Assigned to the Course
- If standards are assigned to the course (perhaps by a parent program) they will appear on this screen.
- Click the > symbol to expand the row to view specific standards within the set selected for this course,
- Click the information symbol for an external standard to open a window with additional information about the external standards set.
