Configure Custom Terms

Article summary

WIDS allows you to customize several terms in the software.  Once you change a term in the Site Administration area, it will change everywhere. 

From the home page select Site Administration.  Select the Site Configuration tab and Configure Custom Terms screen.

Customized Terms

Competency

A course level outcome.   What a learner will be able to do upon completion of the course.  Defined by the course.

Core Ability

Organization wide outcomes addressed across courses and programs.  The broadest skills students achieve.  Defined by the organization.

Course Outcome Summary (document)

Presents official, non-proprietary information about a course. A Course Outcome Summary may include some or all of the following:  course data, prerequisites, textbooks, learner supplies, competencies, performance standards, learning objectives, related outcomes, and external standards. It also may include a bibliography, course grading information, and guidelines. A course outcome summary is not instructor specific.  In WIDS, the Syllabus is the instructor document.

General Education Outcome

Organization wide outcomes comprised of academic foundation or life-long learning skills.  Defined by the organization.  

Learning Objective

Supporting skills, knowledge, or attitudes that lead to mastery of a competency.  A set of learning objectives are defined for each competency in WIDS.

Learning Plan

A written learning guide that describes the intended performance outcomes (what), suggests learning activities or strategies (how), and designates assessment requirements (when).

Performance Assessment Task

Assignments that learners must complete to demonstrate achievement of one or more outcomes. They include directions, a checklist or rubric, a rating scale and a scoring standard.

Performance Standard

Performance standards lay out observable and measurable assessment strategies and criteria for performance assessment.

Program Outcome

The outcomes to be mastered by learners completing a program. Defined by the program.

Syllabus

A written contract between teachers and learners that establishes learning outcomes, class expectations, assessment process, grading plan, required text(s) and supplies, and documents other general class information.

To Change the WIDS Term

  1. Click Edit next to the term you want to change.
  2. WIDS opens the Edit Custom Terms dialogue box.  Enter data as requested.  
  3. Click Apply WIDS Defaults to start over with the default WIDS terms.

Tip: If you want to start over, click Restore all default values on the main screen.
